The Elvaston Castle and Gardens Trust has at its heart a complete commitment to the repair, conservation and sympathetic development of the Estate to ensure that it can be enjoyed by visitors, local communities and other stakeholder groups now and for many generations to come.
As a charity registering with the Charities Commission, we have a set of charitable objectives which provide the foundations for our work. These are summarised below.
The Elvaston Castle & Gardens Trust exists…
To promote for the benefit of the public the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment of Elvaston Castle, gardens, estate, country park and surrounding area;
To advance the education of the public in the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment in particular, but not limited to, in relation to Elvaston Castle, gardens, estate and country park;
To promote for the benefit of (but not limited to) the inhabitants of the county of Derbyshire the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the said people
We seek to create a landscape for families to picnic and play, for local sports clubs to flourish, for walkers and cyclists, and for people from all backgrounds, cultures and experiences to find a space to spend lazy summer days, and have brisk winter walks.
Similarly we seek to provide a place for education in conservation, heritage and the environment for preschoolers and pensioners, and everyone in between. To create a place for people to learn, to picnic, to relax, and to adventure.
We plan to reimagine and recreate the landscape, to showcase parts of the garden of William Baron, to preserve and enhance the legacy of his Elvaston landscape, and to provide sympathetic additions, and interpretation for visitors.
Finally, we want to provide a home for small and local businesses, traditional crafts, makers and bakers, and to create a hub of local places to attract visitors and boost the local economy. We will have small shops, restaurants and enterprises with all profit ploughed back to develop an economically sustainable site.
