Engagement and Consultation

Crowds of people at the castle

We will shortly be launching a public consultation to find out what you think of our Master Plan for Elvaston Castle and Country Park.

We've been working alongside the Elvaston Castle and Gardens Trust and the Master Plan sets out our joint ambitions for the future of the estate.

Since the 1990s the cost of running the estate and maintaining the buildings has become increasingly difficult costing Derbyshire council tax-payers up to £900,000 a year.

In 2013, we entered into a partnership with the National Trust to support us in finding new ways of attracting more visitors, increasing income and protecting Elvaston's heritage in the years to come. A 10 year vision for the estate and gardens was developed under the partnership and in 2016 a new charitable trust, called the Elvaston Castle & Gardens Trust, was created.

Our ambition is to hand the running of the estate to the trust as a single management body.

A comprehensive Master Plan is needed to guide the future regeneration of the estate and we'll update this page when we launch the public consultation in the next couple of months.
